About SDJF:

Sri Lanka Development Journalists Forum is a well-established national level non-profit and non-governmental organization since 2009 having extensive experience in promoting the role of media in democratization and transformation. SDJF works closely with international media development agencies, local media organisations, universities, civil society organisations, youth and women development movements engaged in promoting democracy and human rights in Sri Lanka.

About the Women Lead Project

The project will provide a remarkable opportunity for female political representatives to learn critical communication and basic media skills. Participants will meet real journalists and learn as to how to face media interviews and articulate critical answers to misleading and tough questions; how to prepare a solid speech, statement for media, how to practically use the social media sphere not only to promote their activities but also to engage their community, how to use the mobile phone and social media safely and securely without getting into threats and online harassment.

Description and Objective of the Assignment

SDJF has developed an FGD guideline and is planing to organize 5 focus group discussions (FGDs)  in 5 districts in the northern province with the elected women representatives. SDJF will coordinate with the local government authorities to mobilize the participants for each focus group discussion. SDJF is expecting to have 15 women representatives at each session. SDJF seeking a team such as Moderator and rapporteur to conduct the 5 FGDs.

Deliverables

Moderator

  • In line with SDJF’s guidelines for facilitating FGD’s moderate all five FGD’s
  • Encourage participants to discuss deeply on the major questions posted  
  • Provide support for participants to understand questions and other inputs
  • Summarise each FGD’s
  • Provide language support for participants in necessary
  • Assist the Rapporteur preparing FGD reports

Rapporteur

  • Collect the details of the participants present for all five FGD
  • Record all five FGD’s only if participants give consent to do so
  • Take picture of all five FGD’s only if participants give consent to do so
  • Rapporteur, capture the key talking points discussed in each of the FGDs.
  • Finalise all FGD reports in local language  

Qualifications: Individuals extensive experience and a variety of skills to enhance the capacity and empower the network of elected women representatives. Specifically, the consultant should possess:

  • At least two years’ national and/or international experience as a Moderator or Rapporteur in above field.
  • Ability to conduct sessions in local language (Tamil).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, work ethic and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Willingness to work in Northern Province.
  • Proven ability to plan strategically and innovatively to meet objectives.
  • Critical thinking ability to anticipate challenges and find solutions.
